Twice Olympic Gold Medalist, Welsh man Geraint Thomas is a professional cyclist. Following glory at both Beijing and London 2012 in the Team Pursuit, Geraint has turned his full attention to the road, where he currently rides for Team Sky. A time trial specialist that is quickly becoming an exciting all-rounder, 'G' displayed his climbing credentials at the 2011 Tour de France, and his ability to win races at the British National Championships a year earlier.

Geraint Thomas ended the Eneco Tour in sixth place overall after finishing a tough final stage in a vastly reduced peloton.

Thomas was well marshalled during the 183.4km trek from Riemst to Sittard-Geleen, and stayed alongside his general classification rivals as they battled their way over 22 unrelenting climbs.

The Welshman then followed an attack from Philippe Gilbert (BMC Racing) in the last 3km, but both were quickly brought back into the fold and crossed the line on the same time as the newly crowned race winner Tim Wellens (Lotto Belisol).

Jack Bauer has gone into meltdown!

Not the character from the hit television series 24 who specialises in saving the lives of United States Presidents but the New Zealand cyclist.

Bauer was in tears after being caught just 50m from the finish line of stage 15 of the Tour de France by a shrinking peloton following a near 222km break from Tallard to Nimes with Martin Elmiger (IAM Cycling).

Garmin-Sharp powerhouse Bauer had distanced the Swiss champion in the final few hundred metres but hadn’t accelerated early enough and was agonisingly overwhelmed by the sprinters’ teams as Norway’s Katusha fast-man Alexander Kristoff snatched the spoils.

Geraint Thomas led Great Britain around the track to two Olympic gold medals and showed last week in the Tour de France that he is pushing for something similar for Sky team-mate Richie Porte. Just as Porte did when working for Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome, Thomas appears to be paving his own path towards Tour fame.

“If I was the leader and was in another team, I’d be around there, if not a bit better,” said Thomas, who sits 13th overall. “It’s not that I think about, though. It’s all about the team. It’s all about Richie and then, I will see how far I can go. It’s a good learning experience in a way and it’s kind of new ground for myself. That’s the exciting thing.”
